Incredible, but true! Even the Starmer brothers could not resist Raphael Kirchner's charm. William Austin Starmer and Frederick Waite Starmer, who emigrated from Leeds (England) to the United States in the late 1800s, signed a considerable number of covers for sheet music until the 1940s, and are still well known today by collectors in this sector. We found two Starmer covers, clearly inspired by Kirchner's work.
The first, Fifth Nocturne by Jgnace Leybach published by Armstrong Music Publishing Company, New YorK, had several reissues, with the same design, but with different colors. In this cover we find two details of two postcards from Kirchner's D.30 "Greek Vergins" series.
Incredibile, ma vero! Persino i fratelli Starmer non resistettero al fascino di Raphael Kirchner. William Austin Starmer e Frederick Waite Starmer, emigrati da Leeds (Inghilterra) negli Usa negli ultimi anni del 1800, firmarono sino agli anni '40 un considerevole numero di copertine per spartiti musicali, e ancora oggi sono molto conosciuti dai collezionisti di questo settore. Abbiamo trovato due spartiti firmati Starmer, con evidente ispirazione al lavoro di Kirchner.
Il primo, Fifth Nocturne di Jgnace Leybach pubblicato da Armstrong Music Publishing Company, New YorK, ebbe diverse ristampe, con lo stesso disegno, ma con colori diversi. Rintracciamo in questa copertina due dettagli di due cartoline della serie D.30 "Greek Vergins" di Kirchner.

The inspiration for Kirchner's postcard D.30-3 is evident in the score for Fifth Nocturne; it is even more evident if the detail of the hands is enlarged.

Still signed by Starmer is the cover Flower Song (Blumenlied) by Gustav Lange, published by Eclipse Publishing Co. In this we find almost identical the postcard of Kirchner E.22-3 "Girls with good luck charms". The drawing of the Viennese artist has minor changes: the pendant hanging from the four-leaf clover chain is transformed into a heart, the neckline and the side opening of the dress are slightly censored, the flowers of the twigs are enlarged at the top, at the bottom it is added a gigantic floral branch as if to hide Kirchner's signature.
Ancora firmata Starmer è la copertina Flower Song (Blumenlied) di Gustav Lange, pubblicata da Eclipse Publishing Co. In questa ritroviamo quasi identica la cartolina di Kirchner E.22-3 "Girls with good luck charms". Il disegno dell'artista viennese presenta piccole modifiche: il ciondolo appeso alla catenina da quadrifoglio si trasforma in un cuoricino, la scollatura e l'apertura laterale dell'abito vengono leggermente censurate, in alto i fiori dei ramoscelli sono ingranditi, in basso è aggiunto un gigantesco tralcio floreale quasi per nascondere la firma di Kirchner.

We must point out that this score was reproduced in many copies and in different shades of color, which is why the Starmer signature is not always legible, it is sometimes absorbed by the dark color of the background.
Dobbiamo precisare che questo spartito fu riprodotto in moltissime copie e in diverse tonalità di colore, ragion per cui la firma degli Starmer non sempre è leggibile, talvolta è assorbita dal colore scuro dello sfondo.
